Week 2: July 15-21, 2021 I like butts
Hola!
It feels like so much has happened this week! If we measured time in experiences, this week was like twelve years long. But it was so amazing. And I wish I could share every single experience but you all would get pretty bored. And Home MTC sounded so boring before I started, and it has its moments, but it is SO AMAZING. I wrote in my journal that we spend half the time laughing, half the time learning so much about the gospel, and the whole time feeling the spirit so strongly. I really really love my district. And oh my! Hermana Skouson is really the best. I couldn’t have gotten a better companion.
My teachers are so great too. We all have made Hermano Gallegos (our afternoon teacher) our zoom profile picture and it’s the absolute best. It made Hermana Murua (our morning teacher) die laughing when she saw it. H. Gallegos will always say, “if you didn’t do this, I’m going to keel someone!” And it makes us laugh every time. Accents make life much more interesting. And I learned this the hard way…
For one of our devotional, H. Gallegos had us make origami hearts (which I’m so bad at doing it’s pathetic) and write who and what we are thankful for. He then asked me what thing I am grateful for. I said, “books.” Well he thought I said, “butts”. Oh my gosh! I quickly tried to correct him but it was too late. District 15d ran with it. It was so funny.
So! As you all know, I got reassigned to the Nevada Las Vegas mission, English speaking! I finally get to live my dream of being “Sister Snow.” The alliteration just makes my heart melt. In all seriousness I was not uber super thrilled about it. But I did feel peace immediately. I know it’s where the Lord wants me. I already feel an immense love for the people in my mission and I really can’t wait to meet them!
This Wednesday I got to go through the Jordan River Temple with part of my district. Because the Elders were late, they didn’t make it into my session. Which was so sad and funny all in one. My mom and I waited in the Celestial room for a little while and then decided to figure out if they had even made it into a session. We asked this lovely temple worker if she had seen any Elders. Well she had just gotten there so she didn’t know. Buuuut there was a peephole in the door for the room the other session was being held. She couldn’t tell if they were in there, so I looked and sure enough! Six elders were sitting in the back row. So we went back and waited in the Celestial room. People began coming into the room. And then a lot more did and still no elders. By this point I’m starting to think I was seeing things earlier. And then I looked over my shoulder. There they all were just sitting in the couch! I go over and awkwardly introduce myself in a whisper and then we headed out. We finally got to actually meet once we were outside again and it was great to talk with all of them. They really are a great group to be put with!
On Monday we started full Spanish, no English. For me this wasn’t too scary considering my background. The whole day the vibe was just off. Everyone was a little too in their heads. Elder Muse had to give a little lesson from the Book of Mormon. And he had to do it in Spanish. He chose the topic to be Grace. I don’t think there was a more powerful topic he could have chosen. We read a few versus from the Book of Mormon and shared personal experiences. Someone shared 2 Nephi 25:23 “For we labor diligently to write, to persuade our children, and also our brethren, to believe in Christ, and to be reconciled to God; for we know that it is by grace that we are saved, after all we can do.” That was perfectly shown throughout the lesson. Elder Muse was struggling with coming up with the right words in Spanish and sometimes it didn’t come out the way he wanted it to. But he was trying so hard and through his effort and through his testimony we all felt the spirit testify of this truth. We are all imperfect. We all make mistakes. But that’s okay! We have Jesus who makes up everything. Elder Muse ended his lesson by saying, “Jesucristo es forever.” And He is. He knows us. He loves us. And He will magnify you in every way you let Him. So let Him in!! Your life will be more than 10000000000x better. I promise!
Love, Hermana Snow
