Week 7: First week in the field: worst nightmare comes true... August 17-23, 2021
Hello Everyone!
This week was pure craziness. Saying goodbyes
really sucks. And I was really sad to say goodbye to District 15D. I love you
all so much!! You guys are going to kill it out in the mission field.
And then saying goodbye to my family. Ugh. The
airport was so hard. I gave them all a hug and kind of just went for it. I knew
if I looked back I wouldn't be able to do it. But I made it to the mission in
one piece!
The flight wasn't too bad except for a really
embarrassing moment... I accidentally got tangled in a cord as I was
practically climbing over someone. I finally made it into the aisle and then
the flight attendants walked down with a huge cart so I had to again climb over
that person. Yikes. I just sat there thinking that of course this is how I
start my mission.
After meeting President Rodarte and his
amazing wife, I was driven out to Kingman, Arizona! Oh my goodness. I LOVE it
here!! Its actually not that hot, there's a nice cool breeze, and it's slightly
humid! Oh and I feel like I'm in cars land since we live right off historic
route 66, which is kind of a big deal down here. I also get a car which I'm
very happy about. Our apartment is slightly dingy but so much bigger than my
dorm at USU. And I get my own bathroom so there is absolutely nothing to
complain about.
And last but not least my companion, Sister
Smyth. She's super great! We've kind of taken a little while to get used to
each other. She's a little quiet but she knows what she's doing and that's very
reassuring. She's from Idaho Falls, out on her mission for four months, and has
already been a trainer! But we both are completely new to our area so it feels
like we are starting from scratch. This meant that we haven't been able to
really teach many lessons because we don't have anyone to teach. But the
lessons I have taught have been interesting to say the least. Two were at a
trailer park with one having a billion cats (not exaggerating) and the other
having two billion Bibles (kind of exaggerating). I love getting out and
meeting people though. Connecting with others is the best part of being a
missionary.
Ok. You guys. My worst nightmare came true. I
was making dinner one night and I looked st the ground. I thought there was a
worm there but when I looked closer, it was a snake!! A snake was in my
apartment!! I freaked out, called for Sister Smyth and then stood on the kitchen
chair still holding the butcher's knife. What a sight. That'll definitely be a
moment I replay when I get to heaven Haha.
I've also struggled a lot with homesickness
this week. Praying has become my number one hobby. I constantly am praying and
asking for help. And He always helps me. I even think sometimes that He won't
help me or I will be stuck feeling sad and then He helps me again. I read 1
Nephi 7 two times this week. The first in English and it really stood out to me
that Nephi asked his brothers three times how they had forgotten their amazing
and miraculous experiences. I even wrote in my study journal that I loved that
question. For the second time I read it from my Spanish Book of Mormon. This
time it felt as if Nephi was directly asking me "how is it that ye have
forgotten?" I kept forgetting that the Lord will help me, He will continue
to answer my prayers. And He will answer yours too! Pray you guys. It is
seriously lifesaving and life changing.
I love you all!
Con amor,
Sister/Hermana Snow
