Week 31: February 1-9, 2022 I'm In A Completely New Country, Mom!
Wow. I'm actually in
Guatemala right now. It's actually crazy that I made it here haha. After
traveling for way too many hours and being awake for way too many hours, I
finally made it to Guatemala on the 3rd. My new compañera is Hermana Madrigal.
She is from Nicaragua and has been out 3 months. She's so amazing. No one is a
perfect missionary, but she gets pretty darn close. I'm so grateful she's my
companion!
So far Guatemala is what I thought it would be
like. It's poor but beautiful in some places. People like to stare at me which
is weird and funny and kinda creepy some times. I'm sure I'm the only gringa
many people have seen with the way they stare haha. I've even had a few kisses
blown my way...
The culture shock was not as bad as I thought
it would be. I expected a lot of what I've experienced. The cold showers bother
me and the grocery store almost gave me an anxiety attack but other than that
it's been great and exciting to see new things. And the food here is so
good!
I've just thought of how spoiled I am and how
privileged I am, not just materially but spiritually. Its so easy to go to the
temple in Utah. It's so easy to do family history work. It's so easy to go to
church! Here none of those things are easy. They truly have to sacrifice so much.
I'm also extremely privileged to come from a family that is sealed together for
all eternity. We had a lesson with a husband and wife this week, she's a member
he's not. She wants them to be sealed so bad but he refuses to be baptized
because he promised his mom he would never change religions. Hermana Madrigals
family is also not sealed. All of us were crying as we bore our testimonies of
the sacredness of those sealings and how it is a great blessing that God has
made a way for us to be with our families forever. I'm so grateful my family is
sealed together for all eternity.
I love you! Jesus loves you! Have a wonderful
week!
